One of our rising stars, Luke Killeen added a second Gordon Rowland Memorial to his resume with a top night of undefeated racing in the 125cc division at Pinjar Park on Saturday November 10th. On a night when many riders found tricky track conditions difficult to deal with Killeen put four unbeaten heat rides together to give him the inside gate in the Final. He was chased by the McDiarmid brothers Jack and Mitchell, with Mitchell getting the better of his big brother in the closing stages of the four lap Final race to take second. Xander Smith came home in fourth place. Luke’s win in the Rowland will make him the pre-race favourite heading into the 125cc State Title.Pre-Program: Rider numbers are still building in the pre-program with plenty of opportunities to race all three categories 50cc, 125cc Lite and Thumpsters. Jett Harvey and Nate Rice were involved in 50cc action although Jett had some bike problems. In the 125cc Lites Axle McCarthy and Trevor Dossett shared two wins apiece before McCarthy took the Final over Dossett and Jake Corbett. In Thumpster action Tyler Magden had a great night winning all four heats and the Final proving too good for Axle McCarthy and Jake Corbett who were doing double duty. More riders welcome in all categories! Winchester Winning Streak comes to an end: Daniel Winchester had won thirty three heat races in succession at Pinjar Park until the 500 cc Solo’s Heat 10 at our last meeting when he fell while leading. He recovered but could only finish third in an event which was actually stopped due to another race incident. Thirty three wins in a row is a magnificent achievement. Daniel won the Final over Doug Scoble, Kris Keast and Brad Gordon. In addition to Daniel Winchester there were an amazing nine falls in the 500cc’s. Among those saluting the shale were Jarryd Ziedas, Jason Marzoli, Jack Hunter, Bryan Miller, Drew Winchester, Brad Gordon, Des Heys and Doug Scoble. Sidecar numbers improve dramatically: A good field of eight sidecar teams produced some excellent racing. It was great to see some a number of riders and passengers back at Pinjar. Andy Sharpe joined Russell Mitchell again after missing the last meeting but their work was cut out by some hard charging combinations. Ryan Fanderlinden teamed up with Andy Gajek and they were the team to beat on the night. Heat winners included the father/daughter combo of Steve and Gaynor Scoble, Mitchell/Sharpe, Wells/Holmwood, Hankin/Moffat, Shield/Brown, Payne/Reece. In fact, the points were so tight that there was some confusion over who the final starters should be. Eventually Fanderlinden/Gajek, the Scoble’ and Harvey/Metcalfe greeted the starter which was the way they finished. Great crowd pleasing action! I can’t wait to see them in the first round of the Summer Slam on December 15th. Fewsters and Harvey/ Solomon rehearse for Junior Sidecar Title: With regular passenger Tylar Solomon back from a basketball injury and swinging for 250cc Sidecar rider Jake Harvey the night’s Junior sidecar racing took on some added importance as the boys prepared for their State Title. Jake and Adam Fewster, the Australian Champions are in great form, but with Solomon back on deck the racing was of the very high standard of last season with unpredictability, closeness and hard charging the hallmark of every race. These two combinations are incredibly entertaining. Spoils on the night went to the Fewsters but the State Final is the main game. It’s another one I can’t wait for.
